From the point that the ideal yacht has been found, the required procedures for successfully completing a yacht buying transaction in Greece includes the following steps:

1. If you agree to buy a yacht in Greece then we will draw a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Seller and the Purchaser where all the parameters of the sale will be included together with an inventory list.
2. We always recommend an inspection/survey from a naval engineer of the buyer’s choice who will check the general condition of the boat and will draw a report for the potential buyer. The cost for the above action is paid by the buyer. We can recommend you independent surveyors for executing surveys.
3. A sea trial is also recommended and is executed after a MOA is signed. The cost for the sea trial, which may require haul in/haul out if the boat is ashore, and gas consumption during the sea trial, are paid by the buyer.
4. The Greek Law requires a certain bureaucratic procedure to be followed during the transaction which however safeguards the interests of the Buyer and prevents any debts or any other financial burdens that could exist on the boat to follow the boat after the purchase.
5. We can propose highly experienced maritime lawyers in Greece who can handle legal issues almost all over the world. They will perform the checking of boat titles and documentation required by the Greek State and furnished by the Seller, inspection of registry files and finally monitor deletion procedure of boat from the Greek Registry. The cost for this service has to be paid by the buyer. Alternatively you can use a forwarder or lawyer of your choice.
6. The duration of the purchase procedure in Greece, from signing of Bill of Sale to deletion of boat from the Greek Register will amount to around 2-4 weeks provided that unexpected problems will not arise.
7. The yacht can be sailed by the new owner only after a Bill of Sale has been issued and officially signed by the Vendor as well as by the Buyer and also the Deletion Certificate has been issued.
8. A yacht sold to a non E.U. Citizen does not require paying any outstanding VAT to the boat. It will require though the yacht to be custom cleared from the E.U. The cost for this transaction is approximately 1.600 Euros.
